Colleague Focus – Jill Horvath

As we arrive at the next installment of our Colleague Focus, we venture to Chagrin Falls, Ohio in order to introduce Jill Horvath, our Corporate Accounts Payable Coordinator. Jill has been a member of Mar-Bal for over six years, working at the Corporate Office since August of 2014.

Like many colleagues before her, Jill lists the people she works alongside as her favorite part of Mar-Bal. A close second would be her Accounts Payable responsibilities which can be challenging at times but undoubtedly rewarding. These duties affect multiple departments and our manufacturing facilities which require attentiveness and versatility. Jill’s proudest moment at Mar-Bal was being a member of the team that successfully implemented a new Accounts Payable automation system, stating that the process was inherently very detail-oriented and at times, presented them with obstacles they worked collectively to overcome.

Jill attributes her professional diligence to the examples set by her late father,  “…I learned what honesty, loyalty, hard work and family really means. He was an excellent example of each one of those traits. I get my work ethic from him and he is missed every day”. The importance of family is further evident when she reminisces about the weekly visits with her grandparents, during which Jill often enjoyed her favorite meal prepared by her grandmother, Hungarian Chicken Paprikash with spaetzels. “We would visit my grandparents every Sunday and she would cook all the different dishes that each grandchild liked. She would also bake a sponge cake with coffee frosting for each birthday”.

When it’s time to unwind, she can be found reading and watching the Browns on Sundays or her favorite shows, which are currently The Mandalorian, The Crown and The Undoing. She also spends her time taking her dog Elsa on walks and car rides (which Elsa loves), trying new recipes and spending time with her mother.

Although this year has created restrictions for all of us, Jill has found a way to maintain her social life. She and her friends schedule video calls after work and even participate in a “Virtual Happy Hour” where they catch up while enjoying cocktails. Most of them have known each other for over 35 years and stay connected despite living in different states, planning their vacations to travel as a group.

Instead of choosing a favorite destination to frequent, Jill and her friends enjoy traveling to new locations and have compiled a rather impressive list. Vacationing both in the US and abroad, Jill has visited the Napa Valley, Florida Keys, Alaska, Italy, England, Germany and The Virgin Islands among other notable areas while visiting such landmarks as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and swam with pigs and sea turtles in the Bahamas and watched the sun rise at the top of a volcano in Maui.

We know Jill is looking forward to traveling once again and can’t wait to see where she’ll head to next!. Until then, we hope she has just as much fun sipping cocktails through Zoom, taking Elsa for rides and cheering on the Browns. Thank you Jill for all of your hard work!
