2018 Summer Interns II

Mar-Bal Welcomes 2018 Summer Interns

Continuing our university outreach, this summer we’re welcoming engineering, accounting and marketing interns. Each intern will work closely with Mar-Bal employees to gain on the job experience in addition to supplying new ideas and energy to the company. In Ohio, Noah Anderson is our IT intern from Denison University and our engineering intern in Virginia, Brandon Hart, attends Virginia Tech.

What are you hoping to gain from your internship with Mar-Bal?

From Mar-Bal I am hoping to gain a deeper understanding of IT procedures and methods of problem solving while working with a team. In addition, I hope to further my networking and communication skills.

What have you learned during your time here at Mar-Bal?

Although it is only my second day at Mar-Bal, aside from the numerous IT topics I have already covered, I have learned how important communication is.

What are you hoping to gain from your internship with Mar-Bal?

Most of the classes an engineer takes while getting their degree are theoretical. Some things, like overcoming unexpected production challenges can’t be taught very well in a classroom.  So far, I have been and hope to continue to gain experience in this real-world production environment.

What have you learned during your time here at Mar-Bal?

In addition to learning all about the molding process for thermoset composite parts, I have refreshed my skills in machining, learned to write G-code, utilized statistics to solve a difficult production challenge, and learned how to precisely measure parts with a Faro arm. I have learned some extremely valuable skills already and learn more every day.

What are your impressions of the work environment at Mar-Bal?

The people I work with everyday are incredibly talented and passionate about their jobs here at Mar-Bal. The environment here has allowed me to be curious, and often self-guided in my pursuit of accomplishing meaningful projects.  I’m excited to come to work and have the opportunity to make a positive impact.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the internship and classes?

Outside of work and school, I love spending time with friends and family. I am passionate about good food and really enjoy brewing my own beer, which I’ve been doing for years.  I have even started growing my own hops, which, along with a small garden of potted plants have kept me busy this summer.  I try to get out hiking or playing golf as often as I can!

What is your all-time favorite food?

I love food of all kinds, but honestly, not much can beat New York style pizza.

Have you done any traveling? Favorite place you’ve traveled?

I have been fortunate to be able to travel throughout much of the US and abroad a few times. My favorite region abroad is southern Germany and Austria, it is just such a beautiful part of the world.  That said, the natural beauty and variations of America are incredible, and I feel often under appreciated..

Favorite season?

Spring, obviously! (Sorry to those of you with allergies.)
